People, baffle me at times. Sometimes strangers, sometimes our closest ones. They say, "we know what works the best for you. Don't do this or do that". So, what do you do? They have been right earlier too! You don't want to upset them by going against their advice but you aren't too comfortable either with a decision shoved down your throat. It's painstakingly uncomfortable. You are confused yet ready to accept a decision that would keep your folks happy. But what about you? Who you want to be, what you want to do?
Deep down though, to an extent, we're all aware of what we want. But either we are too afraid or we are so used to living by decisions that people take for us, that we don't live a life. Our life.
When I moved to Bangalore, barring my sister & a few close friends, no one supported me. They were skeptical, "what will you save? It's a wrong career move. Moving for perspective? Haa, you will be doomed". Not exactly the kind of motivation I was looking for. But when I introspect, I figured out that sometimes the fault lies within us. We seek validation about every step that we take. We need someone else to tell us what's right & wrong for us. While it's lucky to have such a caring support system but people are going to agree to disagree. We don't need approval for our every move. It might be ambiguous for them but alright for us. People are going to opine but if we can't have the nerve to listen to our hearts, to follow our instincts; then they will keep making decisions for us & we will keep living a life decided by them. People who truly love us will never suppress but instead, empower. And, here's the best part about them. They weigh each pro & con, share their two cents but will eventually leave it to us. The maker of our own destiny. They know we could fail but we could blossom too. They have our backs but they let us be us too. Nothing is more empowering than to make others empowered.
